Basketball is one of the most beloved sports in Roseto degli Abruzzi and boasts a century-old tradition. A deep passion unites the majority of the population, who fervently support the various teams that have achieved great success over the years.
A bit of history
Basketball represents one of the most important cultural assets of the community in Roseto degli Abruzzi, where it has been practiced since 1921, when the city was still known as Rosburgo and was a fraction of Montepagano.
In Roseto, basketball has always been more than just a sport, to the point of creating the oldest summer basketball tournament in Europe (the Lido delle Rose Trophy, founded in 1945, even before the birth of the American NBA). It is worth mentioning that a team representing a city of 24,000 inhabitants reached Serie A in 2000 and participated in European cups (Uleb Cup) in the 2002/2003 season.
